Who Is God?
Many will admit the there is a “Higher Power”, but exactly who IS or WHAT is that Higher Power”? Let’s explore…
God The Father
God the Father gave His Son to save us. – John 3:16 &17 – 16For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
God is love – that is His character and essence. – 1 John 4:8 – He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
While on earth, Jesus revealed the Father. – John 14:9 – Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
God The Son
Jesus, the Word and Creator, is called God. – John 1:1-3 – 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
Jesus the Word came to live among us on earth. – John 1:14 – And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Jesus created all things. – Colossians 1:15 & 16 – 15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
Perfect Love and Unity
Before the entrance of evil there was peace and joy throughout the universe. All was in perfect harmony with the Creator’s will. Love for God was supreme, love for one another impartial. Christ… was one with the eternal Father – one in nature, in character, and in purpose – the only being in all the universe that could enter into all the counsels and purposes of God. GC 493
Jesus was in perfect unity with the Father. – John 17:18-26 – 18As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth. 20”I do no pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21that they may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23I in them, and You in Me; that they m ay be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.” 24”Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Med before the foundation of the world. 25O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. 26And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”
No False Representation
Christians are set as light bearers on the way to heaven. They are to reflect to the world the light shining upon them from Christ… If we do represent Christ, we shall make His service appear attractive, as it really is. Christians who gather upon gloom and sadness to their souls, and murmur and complain, are giving to others a false representation of God and the Christian life. They give the impression that God is not pleased to have His children happy, and in this they bear false witness against our heavenly Father. SC 115,116
God The Holy Spirit
Jesus promised the Spirit to take His place of earth. – John 14:16-18 – 16And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever – 17the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
The Gift That Brings All Others
Christ has promised the gift of the Holy Spirit to His church, and the promise belongs to us as much as to the first disciples. But like every other promise, it is given on conditions. There are many who believe and profess to claim the Lord’s promise; they talk about Christ and about the Holy Spirit, yet receive no benefit. They do no surrender the soul to be guided and controlled by the divine agencies. We cannot use the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is to use us. Through the Spirit, God works in His people “to will and to do of His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). But many will not submit to this. They want to manage themselves. This is why they do not receive the heavenly gift. Only to those who wait humbly upon God, who watch for His guidance and grace, is the Spirit given. The power of God awaits their demand and reception. This promised blessing, claimed by faith, brings all other blessings in its train. It is given according to the riches of the grace of Christ, and He is ready to supply every soul according to the capacity to receive. DA 672
The Spirit reveals Jesus to us. – John 15:26 – “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.
The Spirit convicts of sin. – John 16:7 & 8 – 7Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. 8And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.
The Spirit guides us into all truth. – John 16:13 – However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
